When to Visit Greece

Summer is undoubtedly prime time for that classic Greek experience. Picture yourself on Santorini's beautiful beaches or soaking up Mykonos's famous party scene, bustling with millions of visitors. Be aware, however, that some islands, like Mykonos, transform from jam-packed to deserted in the off-season, as locals often close shop and travel themselves.

Don't rule out Greece in winter! It's a vibrant, colorful country even then. Consider a skiing trip to the mountains or explore stunning winter islands like Hydra (car-free and charming) and Crete, one of Greece's largest and most beautiful islands.

Reaching the Greek Islands

From Athens, the most popular islands are accessible by ferries or flights. Greek ferries are like mini-cruise ships, offering comfortable seating, Wi-Fi (for purchase), cabins (additional cost, accommodating four), cafes, restaurants, and vehicle storage.

You'll find two types:

• Regular/Slow Ferries: These take about 7 hours from Athens to Santorini, stopping at 2-3 islands. They feature outdoor decks – perfect for fresh air and ocean views.

• Fast Ferries: Quicker by 1-2 hours (5 hours to Santorini), but lack outdoor decks, so you'll enjoy ocean views from large glass windows

Where to stay in Greece
